Monbulk Pavillion 500K promise from Liberals

NAPTHINE LIBERALS COMMIT $500,000 FOR

MONBULK RESERVE

Liberal candidate for Monbulk Mark Verschuur, today announced that a re-elected Napthine Government will deliver $500,000 towards a new community sports pavilion at Monbulk Reserve.

Mr Verschuur said the funding commitment would deliver a much-needed facility that would cater for the local football, netball and cricket clubs as well as school groups and the wider community.

"I’m a proud supporter of local sporting clubs and I’m delighted to have been able to deliver this much needed funding commitment for the hundreds of members of local clubs, user groups and the wider sporting community," Mr Verschuur said.

"Investing in our local sporting facilities is crucial, because it means we are investing in the futures of our young people. It is important that local youths have best possible local facilities available to them, encouraging them to pursue activities that build skills like leadership, teamwork and resilience.

"Not only do our local football, netball and cricket clubs encourage young people to be active and healthy, they help build stronger and more engaged communities.

"As part of Premier Denis Napthine’s team, I’ve been working with supporters, as well as committee members, to make this project a reality."

This funding announcement for Monbulk Community Sports Pavilion follows the $500,000 commitment towards the Upwey-Tecoma Community Recreation and Sporting Hub, announced by Premier Denis Napthine last week.

The Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Edward O’Donohue, joined Mr Verschuur to make the announcement.

"Mark’s commitment to fighting for Monbulk has paid off for the community and I am thrilled to be here today for this fantastic announcement," Mr O’Donohue said.

Paul Utting, President of the Monbulk Recreation Reserve Development Group, welcomed the announcement and said the funding would go a long way to transforming the old facilities.

"It’s especially important to our female participants, because currently there are no female change rooms," Mr Utting said.

"This funding would give us the opportunity to open up the reserve and make it a more inviting place for the wider community."

New $1.8 Million Upgrade of Pavilion in Olinda

Wednesday 14th August - I'm proud to attend and officially open the upgraded Pavilion at the Olinda Recreational Reserve. This state of the art facility cost $1.8 Million dollars and funded partly by local community groups, Yarra Ranges Council, State and Federal Govts. Opening starts at approx 1030am at the reserve.

Regional Soccer "One step closer"

After approval by the Minister for Planning, the Victorian Parliament has ratified a planning scheme amendment to enable the development of a much-needed regional soccer facility in Monbulk.
The Legislative Assembly this week agreed to the Government’s motion, which rezones a site at Old Emerald Road, Monbulk, from Green Wedge Zone to Public Park and Recreation Zone.
Eastern Victoria Region MP Edward O’Donohue welcomed the amendment that was earlier in the month moved by the Minister for Planning, Hon Matthew Guy, and approved by the Legislative Council.
“This rezoning will allow Yarra Ranges Shire Council to proceed with an exciting and welcome regional soccer facility in Monbulk,” Mr O’Donohue said.
“Soccer participation has soared in the Yarra Ranges with existing facilities stretched to the limit.
“The Coalition is pleased to have facilitated this rezoning to help cater for the demand on existing infrastructure and the rapid growth in soccer participation that is expected to continue in the area.
“I pay tribute to the tireless work of the Monbulk Rangers Soccer Club, local community members as well as the funding contribution from Yarra Ranges Shire Council and the Federal Government.”
The development will include a pavilion, three full size synthetic pitches, one full size grass pitch, one training size pitch, lighting and car parking.
Mr Guy said the Victorian Coalition Government was pleased to approve the planning scheme amendment.
“The project has been prepared and adopted by the Yarra Ranges Shire Council, so I am pleased the Council can now proceed with this much-anticipated facility,” Mr Guy said.

New playing Lights - Seville Recreation Reserve

I had the great pleasure of speaking at a low key presentation on the weekend about the new playing lights at the Seville Recreation reserve, here some of the highlights!

The State Government committed $100,000 to the installation of sports field lighting on this junior oval at the last election.

A major power upgrade was required to facilitate this installation which resulted in the total project cost coming in at $235,000 with the $135,000 shortfall being committed by Yarra Ranges Council for this important community upgrade.

The new lights are now at a night time competition standard – which opens up opportunities for some junior games being played at night.

In parallel with this project Council has undertaken a major redevelopment of the playing surface including drainage, irrigation and sand profiling before a new summer grass turf playing surface was laid. The investment in this project by Council was in excess of $300,000.

Council has also invested a further $125,000 in installing a new night competition standard sports field lighting system on the No.1 (Senior) Oval. The old lights had to be decommissioned after a safety audit in February 2013 prior to the current footy season.

All of the above projects mentioned were priority actions out of the Seville Reserve Master Plan approved by Council in mid 2011.

Monbulk Under 16 Football Team

Was great to present the official Jackets to the Under 16 Monbulk Football team, they looked very professional and something younger players will aspire to! Well done boys and good luck for 2013!

Monbulk Jnr Football Club

It was a great pleasure to attend the presentation of team uniforms to the members of the Monbulk Under 16's Jnr Football club. This is the first time that this has been done for this team. Last year the under 16's side only had around 11 players, but this year they have 29! The team jackets looked great and I am sure that each team member will wear them with pride! Many thanks to Cr's Mcarthy and Child who also chipped in to fund this project!

Monbulk Junior Football Club

It is my pleasure to announce that with the assistance from Cr's Mcarthy, and Child we have provided financial support to the Monbulk under 16's Junior Football club in the sum of $2500.00. I am proud to support "grass roots" sporting clubs as they are the key to developing our young into responsible adults and possibly great sports people!

Monbulk Soccer Facility

Cr’s Dunn, MCarthy, McCallister, and I will soon be sitting down with council officers to discuss the progression of the proposed Monbulk Regional Soccer Facility. This project was initiated by my predecessor Mr Graham Warren, and I certainly recognised the support that this project has in the community by the large attendance at one of our first meetings. We are all keen to see where this project is at and assist in any way we can to progress this project.

Collingwood Football Club Visit

Yesterday the Shire of Yarra Ranges was privileged to welcome the Collingwood Football Club. An exciting event for the fans and kids who were able to see up close their football heroes! The team was welcomed by the traditional owners of the Yarra Ranges, followed by our Mayor Mr J Child. Local football clubs and media also attended. Cr's MCarthy, MaCallister, and myself "mingled" with the team. Oh Cas, Olivia and Mackenzie also had the privilege to say hi to the boys!
